Fifty Shades of Violence against Women

By Mike Welsh

Melinda Tankard-Reist , co- founder of Collective Shout, a movement against the objectification of women and sexualisation of girls in media, advertising and popular culture recently saw the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” and has some sobering things to say.

Ms Tankard-Reist is concerned about the movie’s attempt to romanticise abuse.

The commentator was a guest on my radio show this week (audio below) and explained how she was able to convince several organisations, including the White Ribbon  organisation which engages Australian men to campaign to end men’s violence against women, to cancel “FSG” fundraising events.
